A New Beginning

As some of you may know, we have been given the opportunity to buy a home. This isn’t something we were planning on right away, nor were we even looking. Vic and Jean Fischer, Jason’s childhood neighbors, came to us and offered us a deal we couldn’t refuse, so we are moving! Granted, it’s only 200 yards from our current home, but we couldn’t be more thrilled. And yes, it is across the street from Eric and Nancy, but we are actually looking forward to it. Nancy says she is watching Everybody Loves Raymond to see what life will be like for the next 5-10 years. I will probably be disconnecting their cable if that continues ;).

The home is a diamond in the rough. The entire house has carpet, even in the kitchen, mudroom, and bathrooms. They have their definite style and we have our definite style, so some changes will be coming (hopefully sooner rather than later). To give you an idea, the carpets, walls, window curtains, and blinds in the 2 family rooms are all blue. Jean loved to coordinate colors! Rose wallpaper and a “city scene” wallpaper are consistent throughout the whole house, so my parent’s steamer will come in handy for some sweet removals! And did I mention the whole house is carpeted? :P

the lovely kitchen!

The whole reason they moved is because they have become unable to keep up with the property, so there is a lot of catch up work to be done, but we are looking forward to our new adventure together. Trash needs hauled, cobwebs need swept, paint needs painted, de-cluttering needs to happen, outbuildings need torn down, and carpets need torn out (because EVERYTHING is carpeted, I’m not sure if I mentioned that yet or not)…but all the hard work will be worth it. The best part about the house is that it’s move in ready. The only changes we’ll need to make to it are cosmetic, and I like a good project anyways.

day one of hauling stuff: Eric in the garage, looking a tad overwhelmed (join the party dude)

The home is 2,100 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 2 ½ bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a mudroom (my favorite), a shop (Jason’s favorite), 1.9 acres, fruit trees (the dogs’ favorite-birds galore), a nice deck, a big yard, a garage, and even a dishwasher! (No more hand washing dishes- we’re really going to miss it!) I’m most excited to get my nice washer/dryer set back, Eric’s been holding it for us in his shop since our current apartment doesn’t have room for them.

the master bedroom, that my dad says we should turn into an indoor football arena

We are SO excited to start our new life in this home and to make it ours. I envision our future holds…
little toes pattering across the floors
doggy nose smudges on all the windows
sidewalk chalk hop scotch in the driveway
early Christmas mornings
breakdowns
repairs
boys bringing frogs and snakes in from the canal
dog baths in the yard
Jason hanging mounts from his hunts
prom date pictures by the flowerbed
family scripture time before bed
dirtbike jumps in our lawn, with a track worn down in the grass
surprise birthday parties
and all the other joys that come from raising a family, together :)
